This event takes place in person in our Grand Hall

From Norwegian experimental theatre-makers Susie Wang, Burnt Toast combines reality and surreal horror to create an experience that challenges the boundaries of human nature.

We find ourselves somewhere in the Deep South, in an all-red hotel lobby with a front desk and two elevators — one going up and one going down.

Betty, the receptionist, dutifully minds her desk as Danny arrives, chained to a mysterious silver briefcase. His attention soon turns to Violet—a woman sipping an eggnog cocktail while cradling her daughter. Could her child be his?

As their conversation deepens, questions spiral and danger unfolds, blending love and horror in a bloody descent into the unknown.

Biographies

The Norwegian theatre company Susie Wang was formed in 2017 by writer and director Trine Falch, composer and sound designer Martin Langlie, actor Mona Solhaug and set designer Bo Krister Wallstrøm.

Having worked in a conceptual performing arts field for many years, embracing everything authentic and real, they became increasingly curious about the theatrical un-real and as Susie Wang they now make theatre with characters and plots.

Or as they say: Susie Wang was brought up with a shattered world view, and instead of keeping on reflecting the world in fragments, we have started to pick up the pieces and put them together as dramatic storylines.

VISIT OUR ACCESS PAGE

We want our shows to be as accessible to as many people as possible.

We offer tickets to most shows on a Pay What You Can basis throughout the year.

Tickets for performances in 2025 start at £9.50, and we have recommended pricing to help you choose a price that works for you.

We know that ticket price is a huge barrier for some. If you can afford to pay the recommended price or more, choosing to do so supports those that can’t. It makes it possible for us to continue to offer Pay What You Can and welcome those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend.
