Part of Homegrown Festival 2024

An evening of community art-making looking ahead to the future as we reimagine hope and community

We are all co-collaborators in our survival”

Guided by Tyreis Holder, a visual artist and community arts practitioner, we will respond artistically to the questions “How do we build community?” “What does an ideal area look like?” and “How does it make you feel?” Together with the group, you will use different mediums across creative writing, mixed media, textiles and portrait drawing to ‘paint the walls’ of the space.

Your work will remain on display for the duration of the festival as a group exhibition, inspiring others to reimagine hope for their own futures. Members of the public are invited to continue adding to this display, using card and materials to write thoughts, feelings and provocations.

The free drop-in exhibition will be open to the public during the following times:

  • Friday 19 April, 12pm to 6pm
  • Saturday 20 April, 12pm to 6pm

Hope Reimagined is produced by Sagal Abdullahi and Hiba Chaatouf, BAC Young Producers.

The workshop is facilitated by Tyreis Holder.

Tyreis Holder is an Artist, Poet, Visual Storyteller and Community arts practitioner from South London, with heritage reigning from Jamaican/St Vincent. She works heavily in mediums pertaining to installation, textiles, performance, poetry, sculpture and sound. Her practice centres around explorations of self, identity politics, generational/ancestral healing, spirituality, and the relationship with the mind, particularly within regards to navigating colonial spaces. Primary grounds for exploration pertain to how textiles poses as poetic language, functioning as a healing device- specifically in regards to trauma experienced by black women. Bringing lived experiences into her practice, she aims to generate conversations around how social and intimate spaces are shaped through race, diffability*, community, heritage, class, sexuality and culture.

Sagal Abdullahi is a grassroots community organiser, creative producer and arts practitioner working across the mediums of photography, film and particularly audio storytelling. Based in Southwest London, her work is centred around championing community expression and non-mainstream histories. She is inspired by the power of sound and archiving, and has audio-engineered and produced various projects including an oral archival series centred on migration and nature, as well as a travel podcast. She is also the co-founder of Barakah LDN, a grassroots female football collective and community space for minoritised women and girls.

Hiba Chaatouf is a visual artist and creative producer based in Southwest London, specialising in Arabic calligraphy, botanical arts, logos and illustrations. Her artistic expression is diverse, blending various mediums such as painting and textiles, to multidimensional craft pieces, often on canvas. Her work is heavily inspired by her Islamic faith, as well as a passion for nature, buildings, and literature, encapsulating a rich tapestry of influences. Having completed her recent book cover illustration, botanical inspired mural, and a variety of canvas collections, 2024 sees her embarking on officially opening her art brand ‘Hayattis Pallete’ as the Founder Artist.

We want our shows to be as accessible to as many people as possible.

We offer tickets to most shows on a Pay What You Can basis throughout the year.

Tickets for performances in 2025 start at £9.50, and we have recommended pricing to help you choose a price that works for you.

We know that ticket price is a huge barrier for some. If you can afford to pay the recommended price or more, choosing to do so supports those that can’t. It makes it possible for us to continue to offer Pay What You Can and welcome those who otherwise wouldn’t be able to attend.
