A visceral, absurdist ride through Breakdown Britain.

Part ritual, part exorcism, Wormhole of our Formation charts a fragmented personal journey across the disorienting landscapes of austerity and ageing.

From the monotony of bed and breakfasts, money concerns and motorway closures – armed with a wind machine, artist Catherine Hoffmann uses warped music and searing text to immerse audiences in a surreal, transcendental point of collapse, as Tetley tea bags pile high and scrambled eggs congeal.

Biographies

Catherine Hoffmann

Catherine Hoffman takes an interdisciplinary approach to her work sitting in between live art, cabaret and performance. She ventures into vulnerable terrain using humour and irreverence as a tool, embracing the desire for collective healing in our challenging contemporary lives. Mainly creating solo shows, she also collaborates with Florence Peake and has shown in festivals, theatres, art galleries, cabaret events, on night buses, in bars and clubs throughout the UK and Europe. 

Recently she worked as script consultant for Tink Flaherty’s Gen X and Gen Z at the Southbank Centre. She created an immersive version of Wormhole of our Formation using VR 360 film at UCA, Canterbury supported by Arts Council England, Hi3 Network, Wysing Arts Centre and Cambridge Junction. In 2022, she toured Cyst-er Act to Germany, Turner Contemporary, Summerhall and Southbank Centre

This event takes place in person in our Council Chamber. This space is on the first floor, with step-free access via a lift.

Matter Era

Part installation, part performance, Matter Era brings a post-human world to life through experimental puppetry and animated objects.
